Public Skate: Ex-Bruin Wheeler Cashes in with Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Jets locked up power forward Blake Wheeler, inking him to a six-year contract extension worth $33.6 million. Wheeler has spent the last few years with Winnipeg since being dealt from Boston during the 2010-2011 season. The new deal helps both sides avoid an arduous arbitration process.

Winnipeg extended center man Bryan Little’s contract earlier in the week, signing him to a five-year extension worth $23.5 million on Monday.

The Chicago Blackhawks signed head coach Joel Quenneville to a three-year contract extension. His new contract will keep him behind the Hawk’s bench through the 2016-2017 season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are shopping defenseman Cody Franson. He is a free agent and they are finding difficulty in re-signing him.
