Aaron Hernandez Arrested, Released by Patriots

Police arrested Tight End Aaron Hernandez early Wednesday morning, more than a week after an acquaintance of Hernandez was found dead in an industrial park near his home. A couple of hours after the arrest, Hernandez was officially released by the New England Patriots.

While the charges have yet to be exposed to the public, Hernandez was arrested by Massachusetts State Police, who obtained the arrest warrant, and was booked at the North Attleborough police station.

Throughout the weeks leading up to today’s arrest, Hernandez’s home was searched multiple times by police who were looking for evidence in connection with the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

After officially cutting Hernandez from the team, the New England Patriots released a statement.

“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss,” the Patriots’ statement said. “Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

Aaron Hernandez will be arraigned at Attleboro District Court later today, where many reporters have gathered awaiting his arrival.

According to reports, surveillance video shows Odin Lloyd, Hernandez and 2 others driving into the park where Lloyd’s body was found.

Hernandez had a couple of productive season with the Patriots after being drafted out of the University of Florida in 2010 and just last summer, he signed a five-year contract worth $40 million with the team.

As the days go on, more details and information are sure to be reveled in this whole investigation.
