Bergeron listed as “day-to-day” with a “body injury”

Upon returning to Boston on Sunday, Claude Julien addressed the media at TD Garden and was immediately asked about Patrice Bergeron’s status for game 6 against the Blackhawks on Momday.

“He’s day-to-day,” said Julien. Bergeron awkwardly skated off the ice Saturday night and was taken to the hospital. He did fly home with the Bruins Sunday. When asked about the nature of the center man’s injury, Julien vaguely responded. “Body injury,” said Julien.

If Bergeron is medically cleared to play, ultimately the decision to dress rests in his hands. No ruling has been assessed as of right now.

Just because a player is “medically cleared” doesn’t necessarily mean the player has to be 100% healthy. Fully expect Bergeron to opt in for game 6, as long as he is remotely able to compete.

“I’m going to be honest here, I’ve never been a coach that’s pushed guys to play. Because if they don’t want to, I don’t want them in my lineup,” said Julien. So the guys that you see in our lineup are guys that want to play. This is where they deserve a lot of credit. If they can and if, medically, they’re cleared, and they want to, I’m not going to hold them back. They could be medically cleared, but if they’re iffy about their situation and don’t feel comfortable, then they’re not going to be in our lineup.”

In all likelihood, Bergeron will opt out of Monday morning’s skate and dress for the pre-game skate instead. If he feels good he’ll be in, although that’s just speculation.
