The Bruins hit the Garden ice Friday morning for a final tune up prior to departing for Chicago. Boston will play game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals Saturday night at United Center.

During the hour-long practice session, Claude Julien tinkered with his lineup, making a slight change to the personal on the Bruins merlot line. Instead of skating Kaspars Daugavins alongside Rich Peverley and Shawn Thornton, Julien placed Carl Soderberg with them.

Soderberg sported a wine color jersey, while Daugavins wore the green colored jersey, which signifies a healthy scratch. Soderberg took the majority of the reps with the fourth line with. Daugavins switched in sparingly. Soderberg centered the group.

Daugavins has seen very little ice time in 6 playoff games, as he is averaging just north of 8 minutes a night. He played just 5:57 on Wednesday.

Thought Julien has yet to make it clear as to whether Soderberg will be playing. “I was just trying something else here,” Julien said. “Just a different look.”

Upon conclusion of practice, Soderberg didn’t have a clue regarding his game 5 status. If Julien does call his number, Soderberg is confident that he has what it takes to contribute.

“I haven’t talked to Coach yet, so I don’t know what’s happening tomorrow. I have been practicing for a long time now, so I feel ready,” said Soderberg. “I’ve been here for 11 weeks now so I know the system. I haven’t played games in a while, but if I’m playing tomorrow, it will go well. I know everything.”

Soderberg could certainly provide some added offensive capability. Daugavins on the other hand brings grit that defines the Bruins make up. This is a developing story line and worthy of paying close attention to as puck drop nears.

The 6-foot-3, Swedish born forward, has not appeared in a game this postseason.
