Lindy Ruff Bound for the Dallas Bench

Latest NHL News and Notes:

The Dallas Stars hired former Buffalo Sabre bench boss Lindy Ruff as their next head coach.  “I’m honored to be joining the Dallas Stars organization,” said Ruff. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

The Buffalo Sabres signed goaltender Jonas Enroth to a two-year contract extension. The deal is worth a reported $1.25 million per season.

The San Jose Sharks locked up forward Raffi Torres for another three seasons. The deal is worth a reported $6 million.

Philadelphia bought out the remaining contract of forward Danny Briere. The longtime Flyer had two years left on an eight-year/$52 million deal.

Los Angeles Kings backup goalie Jonathan Bernier voiced his desire to become a starter. There’s a good chance that his wishes could come to fruition, as the Kings are open to dealing him.

Apparently Miikka Kiprusoff is leaning toward calling it a career. The longtime Flames net minder has spent the duration of his career with the Calgary Flames. “If we had to ask him to make a decision right now, I think his decision would be what it was at the end of the season — that he’s probably finished, but it’s still early in the offseason,” said GM Jay Feaster.
