Tommy Kelly Challenging Himself

From the obis of being an undrafted free agent to a consistent force for roughly 10 years for the Oakland Raider’s, Tom Kelly finds himself in New England after a long and successful stint as a Raider. He brings a veteran presence, a professional attitude, and depth to what just a few short seasons ago was the Patriots weak link suddenly looks somewhat crowded in terms of bodies not so much proven ability versus potential.

Ask Tommy Kelly how he lasted so long and his remark is just this ” Playing Hard.”

The consummate profession Kelly had other remarks about playing here in New England or potentially being released.

“I have to make the team first,” he chuckled. “Bill (Belichick) doesn’t guarantee anybody anything… You see how many people they get rid of around here?”

Kelly hasn’t felt this insecure about his status on a team since his rookie year in 2004.

“That’s how I feel right now, coming in as a free agent. Nothing’s guaranteed to you. You’re at the bottom of the totem pole. You could easily be replaced. That’s how I feel.”

“I’m just trying to learn the playbook and get all my plays down so I don’t have to think, you know. Me, I’m just in my playbook every night, make sure I’m on my Ps and Qs. I don’t worry about anybody else. I have to handle mine.”

Glad to the see savvy veteran still has some spunk in his attitude and approach to the game. The early reports from OTA’s show him lining up along side Vince Wilfork to help anchor up the defensive line. Don’t make no mistake Veteran youth players such as Kyle Love and Brandon Deaderick were sent packing and we speculate it may be due to some really good signs that Tom Kelly is getting it an not just being Gerrard Warren he’s impressing and the Patriots seem to be getting more than what they had purchased.
