Bergeron Receives Selke Nomination

Patrice Bergeron won the Selke Award last season and was again nominated this season. Bergeron finds himself in elite company as Chicago’s Jonathan Toews and Detroit’s Pavel Datysuk also received nominations.

Datysuk is a three-time winner while Bergeron has won it just once. Toews has not yet received the honors.

The Frank J. Selke Trophy is awarded to the NHL forward that demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.

Bergeron led all centermen, winning 62.1% of the face-offs he took. He also ranked first among all Bruins skaters, posting a +24 rating. He anchored the Bruins penalty-killing unit and helped them finish as the fourth ranked group. Bergeron also scored 10 goals and added 22 assists during the regular season.

Claude Julien voiced his support of the nomination, saying, “I can tell you right now, I would be extremely disappointed and would’ve been vocal about it had he not been nominated. This guy here is so good at both ends of the ice, and he keeps proving it year after year. There are not too many guys in this league that can do what Patrice does.”
