Reviewing the Patriots draft.

The New England Patriots started off with a low amount of draft picks. They cashed in on a trade with the Minnesota Vikings to get four more draft picks. Just like that New England was loaded with picks.

Jamie Collins, Linebacker

Selection: 2nd Round, 52nd overall

School: Southern Mississippi

Jamie Collins stock surprisingly dropped to the Patriots late in the second round. He brings in 1st round potential with a great ability to edge rush and get his hands on any teams Quarterback. This was a huge need to a defensively line that went from being a potential weakness of the team to a potential strength in just the last two season’s.

Aaron Dobson, Wide Receiver

Selection: Second Round, 59th Overall

School: Marshall

The fan’s of the New England Patriots demanded that the Patriots drafted a top tier wide receiver. Most wanted them to cash in with their first round pick which was eventually traded to the viking’s for the likes of Tennessee’s Justin Hunter. That didn’t happen however the Pat’s retooled with the best receiver Marshall has had since well yours truly Randy Moss. He’s already had a few circus catches in college and outside of his smaller WR hands he’s been nothing but solid. This could be the new Patriots X receiver.

NCAA Football: Marshall at Purdue

Logan Ryan, Cornerback

Selection: Third Round, 83rd Overall

School: Rutgers

New England Selected 1 of 3 Rutger’s University players in the third round. The Selection of Cornerback Logan Ryan brings Depth to a shallow position. Although the Patriots have Talib,Dennard, and Arrington pencilled in as starters Logan ryan could potentially push CB Kyle Arrington for playing time in the slot or at minimum can be a potential solid fill in if any injury arises with the current starters.

Army v Rutgers

Duron Harmon, Safety

Selection: Third Round, 91st Overall

School: Rutgers’

When New England selected Duron Harmon S, from Rutgers’ it was there second Rutgers’ player to be drafted by the Patriots. This also brought questions as to why the Patriots did draft him so high since he may have gone undrafted a similar situation to last years Tavon Wilson who was selected earlier then assumed this looks to be no more than a depth or special teams then a starter or big time contributor. However with Bill Belichek who has already said he likes that Duron and Logan Ryan have already played together and well with their communication being very strong.

Josh Boyce, Wide Receiver

Selection: Fourth Round, 102nd Overall

School: TCU

Josh Boyce is a potential steal where the New England Patriots selected him. He’s great at separating himself from defensive backs. He’s physically gifted as well as being physical in his approach to the game. He has great hands and can be an immediate contributor if he beats out his fellow rookie receiver for the “X” Receiver as both WR are gifted it seems the Patriots heard the Fans screaming to get them a big fast receiver with the departure of Wes Welker and the need to stretch the field since the day’s Randy Moss. The Fan’s have spoken and the Patriots has listen and answered now for the players to deliver.

Pats Trade Demps, 7th Rd Pick To Tampa For RB LeGarrette Blount.

The Patriots traded a 7th round pick and Running Back Jeff Demps for Running Back LeGarrette Blount who previously played for Tampa Bay buccaneers. He’s at a point in his career where we all know what we are getting from the former Buc he’s a big freakish athlete who can really pound the rock and get you those hard inside the number yard’s. The acquisition could mean that Ridley’s goal line carries may drop  as well as his short yardage runs.

LeGarrette Blount

Micheal Buchanan, DE
Selection: Seventh round
School: Illinois
potentially a late round gem, Micheal Buchanan brings more depth to the New england Patriots defensive line. He’s a humble hard worker the proto type of Patriots player he brings his skill set to the rotation and should contribute and help the rotation at worst case you get a depth player who can also play special teams.
Steve Beauharnais, LB
School: Rutgers
Selection: 7th Round
3 of 3 The third and final Rutgers’ player the Patriots have selected. Steve Bauharnais brings depth to a fairly thick position. currently the Patriots have Jerod Mayo,Brandon Spikes,Donte Hightower,Rob Ninkovich,Dane Fletcher,Niko koutovides, and now Steve Beauharnais. He brings a come to work and work mentality he could contribute down the road but looks more like a special teams guy for the time being.
