Depleted Celtics drop to Miami Heat 109-101

On a night like the many well see from here on out Doc Rivers resting key players Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. With the Celtics in Miami to take on #1 seed and the NBA’s best record holding Heat on Wednesday it was reported that Miami was going to sit Wade, James and Bosh later on the retracted that and all three of Miami’s big three will be playing Friday against the Celtics.

With what might have been his oddest lineup of the season Doc really had no choice on this night he had an awkward rotation given the fact he had no Garnett and Pierce two players who take up about 23-30 minutes a game apiece it again opened the door for a few bench players to get their turn to make an impression for head coach Doc Rivers when he decides his playoff rotations coming here in the next week. Again Jeff Green shined in the absence of Garnett and Pierce which has become something of a trend as of late Green is averaging 20.7 points as a starter this year and has been nothing but stellar when the Celtics have needed him.

The question with Green is his play is significantly subpar at best when Garnett and Pierce are in the lineup. There is just something that occurs when Green is with the key guys on the floor and if the Celtics want to see any kind of success in the post season they will need Green to shine with or without KG or Pierce on the floor. Boston came out of the game tonight looking very good at one point getting out to a 13 point lead but that was soon erased by a 41 point 2nd quarter by the Heat and inevitably holding the lead for the remainder of the game.

Boston made some great pushes but could never get back into it Aside from Jeff Green and his 25 points and 8 rebounds a few Celtics had a good game as well Jordan Crawford chipped in with 20 points in his quest to become an weapon for this team in the playoffs with Jason Terry struggling like he has this year it’s no so farfetched. Also continuing somewhat of a renaissance back to form after a frankly disappointing season Brandon Bass played stellar pouring in 17 points and 9 rebounds along with some loud dunks on an impressive 6-9 shooting but the heroics from the secondary players not being enough to tame the red hot Heat who were lights out from the three and their bench outscoring Boston’s bench in a 109-101 in south beach on this Friday night.

The Celtics head to Orlando tomorrow to take on the Magic with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce set to play the Celtics will be with Forward Jeff Green who after a huge dunk came down lame on his wrist and left the game but in his postgame press conference Head coach Doc Rivers said Green is ok and will play tomorrow in Orlando.
