Celtics Offense Explodes in 118-107 win over the Hawks

On a night where the Celtics looked to gain some ground against potential playoff opponent and eastern conference 6th seed and only two games ahead Atlanta Hawks. Boston again was without Kevin Garnett while resting his ankle injury as well Atlanta was without center Al Horford who was out as well but Boston did welcome back guard Courtney Lee who didn’t start but was available and played just 5 mins. So off the bat both teams were down one of their big men. Boston scored 32 points in the first quarter Boston tussled with the Hawks but Boston was flying high tonight led by the heroics of a number of players tonight. Tonight’s win was a total team effort for the Celtics with the captain pouring in 20 points 10 rebounds and 10 assists in route to his 3rd triple double this season. In the absence of Rajon Rondo and now Kevin Garnett Pierce has done what he has done his entire Celtics career and step up with some crucial buckets down the stretch as well in this game it was an offensive outburst with Jeff Green pouring in a game high 27 points as well Jason Terry had arguably his best game as a Celtic and more importantly is looking like he is coming out of his shooting slump tonight scoring 24 points. Boston was not short on offense or rebounding tonight I’ve hammered the Celtics all year for a lack of rebounding. Celtics reserve Shavlik Randolph came in and provided exactly what the Celtics have lacked in Garnett’s absence and honestly all year a consistent offensive rebounder Randolph dominated the glass on both ends with 13 rebounds and 7 of them being offensive with every single one turning into a score for Boston either by Randolph or a pass by the big man. One negative from tonight’s game was the defense even though Boston scored 118 points for only the second time this season they did give up 107 as well Boston committed its usual “let a scrub get his shine” move with Hawks reserve forward Mike Scott 19 points again Boston was weak defensively again with no Garnett Boston’s defense struggles but tonight was a night where the Celtics relied heavily on their offense to bail out there mediocre defense. Boston in the end got stops down the stretch of the game and closed the Hawks out picking up a game on the 6th seed opponent  now just a game and a half behind the Hawks Boston looks poised to make another push at moving up the standings with just 10 games left against a bundle of playoff opponents Boston can make some noise here and move up the standing as well as get primed and ready and most importnanlty get guys healthy for the playoff run. Boston head to Madison square garden to take on the Knicks on Sunday for the second time this week this is a big game for Boston and essentially every game going forward is big for Boston and their rise to the playoffs.
